Who am I and why am I starting a free online magazine?

Dear reader of HEATWAVE Magazine,

Dear friend,

My name is Arnold, and I’ve got a story to tell you — a story that’s taken me from the rainy streets of Belgium to the vibrant heart of Buenos Aires, and finally to the sun-kissed beaches of Spain. Eight years ago, at 27, I took a leap of faith, left everything behind, and embarked on an adventure that would change my life forever.

I moved to Argentina’s bustling capital, Buenos Aires. With barely a word of Spanish in my vocabulary, photography became my language, my way to connect with the world around me. I had always loved taking pictures, but I had never thought about it as anything more than making memories. With my simple Canon starter camera in hand, I started out with some portraits in the park near my house (thank you Carolina for reacting to my Instagram DM!). Within three months, I was shooting for local clothing stores, collaborating with makeup artists, and actually earning some money doing this. How? I just messaged and emailed a lot of people and didn’t let rejection bother me.

A few photos I took in Argentina during that first year as a photographer.

After a very interesting but hectic year in Argentina, I found my way back to Europe, first to the historic city of Sevilla, and then to the stunning beaches of Valencia. Valencia, with its seemingly endless summers and long white beaches, became my muse. I dove into swimwear and bikini shoots, trying to find my own style filled with summer vibes, natural light, and fun stories that made people fall in love with the faces in my photos.

Some examples of my sun-soaked style of photography.

As much as I still love this sun-soaked style, recently I have started to feel eager to try something new. I want more — more skills, more experiences, more stories. I began to wonder, how do you learn and grow as a photographer? One obvious way is by talking to those who’ve already walked the path you’re on. But here’s the catch: finding meaningful insights from established photographers and models online can be frustrating. Sure, their Instagram pages are full of beautiful images, but good luck finding out even the simplest of things like which camera they use.

I realized I wasn’t alone in this quest for knowledge and inspiration. There are countless others out there, just like me, eager to learn, grow, and connect. That’s when the idea for this magazine hit me. It’s my way to bridge that gap, to dive deep into the experiences of inspiring photographers and models, uncover their secrets, learn from their journeys, and share all of that with you.

This magazine isn’t just about me — it’s about the people in it, and the people who read it. It’s a space for everyone passionate about photography and modeling, whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been in the game for years but feel like you’re stuck in a rut. It’s about learning together, growing together, and building a community where sharing truly is caring.

So, I hope you’re ready to go on this journey together. This isn’t just about the technical side of photography and modeling. It’s about the people behind the photos. About real emotions, real mistakes and real lessons learnt.

I hope you will enjoy HEATWAVE Magazine and if you want to share your thoughts or have any ideas, feel free to shoot me a message or leave a comment on Instagram.

Keep creating, stay curious,

Arnold
